Strongylid helminthes in Indian Wild Asses

Abstract

A study on the record of strongylid nematode infections in Indian wild ass (Equus hemionus khur) - an endangered species, was carried out. The faecal samples were collected from four flocks of the asses. A total of 84 samples were collected and studied for worm infection. Egg per gram (epg) in faeces was determined and was found a range of 100 to 2800. The coproculture of the faecal samples revealed the infection of Strongylus vulgaris, S. edentatus, S. equinus, Gyalocephalus Sp., Oesophagodontus sp., Poteriostomum sp., Triodontophorus sp., Cyathostomum sp., Trichostrongylus sp., and Strongyloides sp. at the rate of 19.65%, 26.19%, 10.71%, 15.48%, 14.29, 5.95%, 2.38%, 3.57%, 18.47% and 40.48%, respectively
